Being prepared can make an emergency a lot less stressful. Due to a hurricane evacuation, we were in the car 18 hours in addition to almost 3 million other Houstonians for a usual 4-hour trip. Because of this evacuation, we learned a lot that first time. Above all, knowing how to prepare for an evacuation can be a lifesaver, literally. Things like having gas tanks full before leaving is invaluable because many gas stations were closed when the evacuation took place. Also, having a small blanket to place on the window allowed sun relief for the baby. So, helpful hints like these can make your evacuation a lot less stressful. This is an evacuation list you can start with, however, you may certainly personalize as you need.
